Application to re-designate land for development

Some of our members have expressed an interest in learning about applications or amendments being proposed in Oakville. There has been an application to amend the Official Plan that would re-designate the land located East of Dorval Drive and North of Rebecca Street, from Residential Low Density to Residential Medium Density to allow for six, three-story street townhouse units to be built on a private lane.

Property under review by Town staff

Long vacant, the lot at 42 Lakeshore Road, that fronts onto Lakeshore Road, at the corner of Chisholm, has become an eyesore for the residents that look onto it and to those walking by it on Lakeshore Road. Our Councillors met with the Mayor and discussed the development options available to the Town. It is thought, that the Heritage Designated house and tree that stand on the property and all the rules that go with building on or near Designated property, might be the reason developers have not shown interest in the building lot. The Town will be reassessing the site and after a review has been made by their staff, will report back to our Councillors and the WHRA.

Acting in the position of a provider of information to our membership, here are two sides to concerns regarding election signs and where they can be placed in our neighborhoods. Mississauga and Burlington have changed their rules and Oakville is now in the process of reviewing their own, with an eye to falling into step with our neighboring communities.

Here is the link to the Ward 2-Councilors’ position on election signs:

At the bottom you will see the attachment (“Keep Elections Visible…”) that contains the position of the JCRA’s Board on election signs. The JCRA asked that we “advise residents that they can register to speak at council by contacting the Town clerk or send in a written submission.” The deadline is Feb. 23, 2015.
